PlusGBUK is an independent educational publication covering psychoactive substances, prescription medicines, harm reduction, dependence, treatment, public health and drug regulation.
Our purpose is straightforward: give readers information that is useful enough to understand, careful enough to trust and clear enough to act on responsibly. Drug and medicine information is often presented at one of two extremes. Some sources minimise risk; others rely on alarm, stigma or oversimplification. Neither approach helps someone who is trying to understand what a substance does, how strong the evidence is, what can go wrong, or when professional help may be needed.
What we publish
Our coverage includes controlled drugs, medicines with recognised clinical uses, medicines that are commonly misused, emerging evidence, interactions, dependence and withdrawal, harm reduction, public-health guidance and legal or regulatory developments. We also explain the difference between prescribed treatment, supervised clinical use, unregulated use and illicit supply. Those distinctions matter because the risks, quality controls and legal position are not the same.
PlusGBUK is written primarily for readers in the United Kingdom, while also covering the United States and Europe where the evidence, law or regulatory context makes that useful.
How our content is produced
Articles are researched using authoritative sources wherever possible, including the NHS, NICE, MHRA, GOV.UK, recognised professional bodies, regulators and peer-reviewed research. We distinguish established findings from uncertainty and do not treat a single study as settled evidence when the wider research does not support that conclusion.
Our authors write for non-specialists. Significant medical claims may be reviewed by an appropriately qualified clinical reviewer before publication or during a later evidence review. A review label describes the review that actually took place; it is not used as a decorative trust badge.

PlusGBUK is not a medical service, prescribing service, pharmacy, legal practice or emergency service. Our content does not diagnose conditions, replace a clinician or provide personalised treatment instructions. We do not treat the appearance of a medicine or substance as proof of identity, purity, strength or safety.
