What harm reduction means here
Our harm-reduction coverage focuses on reducing preventable injury, poisoning and other health harms. That can include explaining interaction risks, uncertainty about illicit supply, warning signs that require urgent medical attention and the limits of visual identification.
We do not present unregulated substances as safe. Appearance cannot establish identity, purity, dose or contamination, and familiar branding is not a reliable guarantee when a product comes from an illicit supply chain.
Limits
Harm-reduction information cannot remove risk. Individual vulnerability varies, and some combinations or circumstances carry risks that cannot be made safe by a checklist. People with symptoms that may indicate a serious reaction should seek medical help rather than relying on an article.
Non-judgemental language
Stigma can make people less willing to disclose substance use or ask for help. Our language aims to describe behaviour and risk without reducing a person to a diagnosis or a substance they use.
