People search for information about drugs and medicines for many reasons. They may have been prescribed a medicine, be worried about someone else, be trying to understand an interaction, have encountered an unfamiliar substance, or simply want a clearer explanation than they have found elsewhere.
PlusGBUK exists to make that information easier to understand without making it simplistic.
Evidence before assumption
We favour evidence over reputation, anecdotes or received wisdom. Where the evidence is strong, we say so. Where it is incomplete, disputed or changing, we make that clear rather than filling the gap with certainty.
Context matters. A medicine taken as prescribed under clinical supervision is not the same situation as an unidentified tablet bought from an unregulated source. A controlled substance may have legitimate research or medical uses while also carrying serious risks outside those settings. Good information should be able to hold those facts together without confusing them.
Practical public-health information
Our work is intended to improve understanding of effects, risks, interactions, dependence, withdrawal, emergency warning signs and treatment options. Harm-reduction information is included because withholding practical safety information does not make drug use disappear. It can, however, leave people less able to recognise danger.
Clear separation between information and advice
PlusGBUK explains general evidence and guidance. We do not diagnose individual readers, recommend illicit drug use, provide personalised dosing instructions or replace advice from a doctor, pharmacist, toxicology service or other qualified professional.
When a question depends on personal medical history, current symptoms, other medicines or an emergency situation, the appropriate source is a healthcare professional or emergency service rather than a web article.
